Eligibility / Prerequisites:

• Basic knowledge of Figma or any design tool
• Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator basics
• Understanding of basic design principles (color, shapes, typography)
(No coding required, but curiosity about apps/websites is a plus)

Week-by-Week Course Plan

Week 1: UI/UX Foundations & Research

Goal: Understand the design process and gather insights for better UX.

  • Difference between UI & UX in real-world products
  • Role of UX in business success and user retention
  • Examples of good & bad design
  • Importance of User Research
  • User Persona creation (Who are we designing for?)
  • Empathy Mapping for better experience
  • Quick interface overview & project organization
  • Frames, grids, and guides for professional layouts
  • Keyboard shortcuts & workflow tips 

Mini-Assignment:

Analyze a popular app (like Spotify or FoodPanda) and note 3 UX improvements you would make.

Week 2: Wireframes & Layout Planning

Goal: Learn to create structured app/web layouts with usability in mind.

  • Low vs high-fidelity wireframes
  • Hierarchy & spacing for easy navigation
  • Mobile-first approach
  • Create 3 key screens (Home, Product, Profile)
  • Using grids and smart alignment for consistency
  • Introduction to Auto Layout for responsive designs
  • Creating reusable components (buttons, nav bars)
  • Intro to Variants (hover, active states)

Mini-Assignment:

Wireframe a 3-screen mobile app using components and auto layout.

Week 3: Visual Design & Interactive UI

Goal: Transform wireframes into polished, clickable screens.

  • Color psychology in UI and brand consistency
  • Typography selection and hierarchy for clarity
  • Using icons and images effectively

  • Creating hover effects, toggle states, and transitions
  • Linking screens for micro-interactions

Mini-Assignment:

Convert your wireframe into a 3-screen high-fidelity interactive UI.

Week 4: Prototyping, Testing & Handoff

Goal: Create an interactive prototype and understand the designer-developer handoff.

  • Screen linking and smooth transitions
  • Adding micro-interactions and simple animations
  • Conducting simple usability testing
  • Gathering feedback and improving designs
  • Present a 3-5 screen interactive app prototype
  • Exporting assets & handoff basics for developers
  • Building your first mini design portfolio

Final Assignment:

Submit a clickable app prototype with a mini style guide (colors, fonts, components).

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will:

  • Understand core UI/UX principles & workflow
  • Create wireframes, high-fidelity screens, and interactive prototypes
  • Use auto layout, components, and simple animations in Figma
  • Conduct basic usability testing and improve designs
  • Build a mini-portfolio project for entry-level opportunities

Note: A laptop is mandatory for this course.
